Juan Martínez

ReDET - Communities of Practice

Born and raised in San Salvador, ancestral land of the Nahua people, Juan holds a Master’s degree in Latin American Theology from the Universidad Centroamericana “José Simeón Cañas” and a Master of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary. After several years in pastoral ministry in El Salvador, he is now part of the Centro Latino team at Fuller Theological Seminary. He is also a doctoral student in Religion and Society at Drew University Theological School. His research interests include cultural trauma, political discourse, critical theory, and liberation theologies, particularly in the Salvadoran post-war context.

What excites you about your role at AETH?

I am passionate about being part of the historic change that Latin evangelical theological education is experiencing. I hope to see theological training spaces more connected to the realities of pain and hope of the diverse Latin American peoples.

In his spare time...

I watch series, play with my cats, and enjoy eating with my friends.

Your favorite book...

I don’t have a single favorite book, but one that has greatly impacted my lifestyle is *Emotionally Healthy Leader* by Peter Scazzero.

The Salvadoran bishop and martyr Oscar A. Romero.
